Wedding planning is one of the most rewarding experiences in a lifetime. Still, it definitely comes with its ups and downs, as well as a lot of little details that are easy to overlook. One of the most important aspects of wedding planning is to have a well-planned timeline. We want to walk you through a simple wedding planning timeline to provide you with resources for starting your wedding planning.

1 | Set Your Budget: 12 to 8 months out

First, before you do anything else—besides maybe scouring the internet for insposet your budget. This step is essential so that you know what sort of wedding you will throw. Is it going to be a 550-person, over-the-top, 4-day celebration, or a lovely ceremony and reception with 20 of your best friends? A lot of that decision will depend on how you envision your day and the budget that you have. Approximately 45% of couples exceed their budget when planning their wedding. By taking the time to set your budget and allocating 10%-15% extra for inevitable hiccups along the way, you will be able to mitigate a significant portion of those extra costs.

2 | Make a List of Priorities: 12 to 8 months out

Every couple is different, and it’s essential to discuss with your partner the things that are most important for each of you on your wedding day. Are there any culturally significant traditions that are essential to either of you? Do you have a large family or group of friends that you’d like to include on your special day? How high is that disco ball on your list of must-haves? A list of wedding priorities will not only help you know where to allocate funds from your wedding budget, but also allow you to envision how much time you’ll need to do all the things you want to do on your wedding day.
