Corporate Team Building Events To Enhance Your Company Culture

When it comes to company culture, there are many nuances to consider to make your team feel heard, respected, and appreciated. With workplace burnout on the rise, it is more important than ever to focus on your team and their level of happiness at work.

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and cultivating a collective tone of support—a network of collaborators rather than a group of employees—could be the key to unlocking a world of success at your company.

One method to establish that company culture is through team building.

Now, a lot of people think about that term and cringe a little. We’ve all been to the work party that flopped, leaving the room feeling even less connected than it did walking in. Team building doesn’t have to be that if you’re dedicated to creating a genuine experience for your team. The event itself has to come from the heart; simply throwing a group of people into a conference room in your office isn’t enough.

The benefits of team building stretch far and wide, but their most basic benefit is, at the same time, their most profound: group events humanize us. They give us a space to let the facades of our work personas down so coworkers can connect. At the end of the day, team members end up being more trusting of one another, more productive, more creative, more likely to try new things at work, and much, much more

You may be reading this article because you’ve realized it’s time to build your team up, and we want to say congrats! You’re obviously a good leader. To keep the ball rolling, here are a few of our favorite corporate team-building events to take your company culture to the next level.

Host A Social Event

Let’s begin with the basics: a simple (but good) social event.

Throwing a last-minute mixer by the coffee station is lackluster. It’s lazy, and it’s disingenuine. People see right through these as dispassionate attempts at team building, resulting in dispassionate interactions and a universal desire to leave the party as soon as humanly possible.

This is why it’s so important to put effort into events like these. When your company knows that the people leading it care, truly care, about them, they reciprocate. Show them that you appreciate them, and the street will run both ways.

Getting your employees out of their work environment and into a setting where they can simply eat delicious food, dance the night away, and learn more about each other as people is enough to get your team engaged.

So how do you create this event?

Simple, and we at The Centre Escondido have you covered. Our event spaces are blank canvases waiting for beautiful decorations. Catering can be covered by Vintana, one of San Diego County’s premier restaurants, which happens to be in our building. As far as activities go, we have plenty of space for card games, corn hole, photo booths. You name it. We even have a golf simulator on-site (and yes, it’s as wonderful as it sounds).

At The Centre, the sky’s the limit—literally, we have a whole range of rooftop venues for you to choose from.

Get Creative With Live Art

Nothing gets us out of our bubbles more than letting our creativity fly. The simple act of creation, of making something out of nothing together, gives us a common purpose, even if it’s just for a short amount of time.

The Centre hosts Stephen Fishwick’s Fine Art Gallery, which is so much more than just a space to buy art—though granted, his work is gorgeous and deserves all of the attention it gets. The gallery also hosts workshops that can be experienced in any of our venues with teams of almost any size.

Stephen also performs live painting with experiences like Art Attack, a dynamic celebration of art, music, and movement. We’ve hosted events in the past that combine painting, live music, and live dance to show an audience a new way to experience art.

If you’re looking for a creativity-led event, we have all of the tools (including paints and brushes) you could possibly need.

Have Your Favorite Speaker Motivate Your Team

One surefire way to get your team motivated and create a memorable experience is to host your favorite keynote speaker at a beautiful venue. When looking for the right speaker, the most important things to consider are (1) the company culture you have and (2) the company culture you want.

If your company is in fashion marketing, for example, maybe don’t invite a professional athlete to speak (there are certainly people who love both but let’s keep any speakers on a similar topic that’s covered at work). If you want to cultivate a more trustworthy culture, maybe consider bringing in an expert in community psychology and wellness—preferably one who knows how to give an engaging Ted Talk.

There are no limits on who you could invite, and finding the perfect space for your guests and even breakout rooms to take place is an essential part of this team-building experience. Be sure to talk to the venue beforehand to ensure they have enough space and the correct equipment to host the corporate team event of your dreams.

Coordinate A Themed Lunch

Get your entire theme on the same page and host a themed lunch.

It’s fun, from time to time, to get out of our comfort zones and dress up! Themes like Alice In Wonderland allow everyone to dress whimsically, your catering team to create a beautiful meal, and a designer to make any space magical. Plus, you can include live art or a special speaker to bring the whole thing together. If whimsy isn’t your thing, you can go for a black-tie meal or something simple like an 80’s theme. It’s your team. You know what they’ll respond to best (and if you don’t, don’t be afraid to ask them).

Remember that showing you care for your team is one step in creating a company culture that people want to be involved with. Once you’ve created that culture, it’s your job to continue nurturing it by showing your teammates time and time again that you are there for them, that you care about them, and that you want nothing more than for them to succeed.
